
TOKYO: Japan's Foreign Ministry raised its travel alert linked to the new coronavirus to Level 3 for 18 additional countries on Friday, urging people to cancel all travel to the designated areas, including Iraq and Cuba.
The travel alert status was also given to Guyana, Guatemala, Grenada, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Haiti, Nicaragua, Georgia, Algeria, Eswatini, Cameroon, Senegal, the Central African Republic, Mauritania and Lebanon.
With the latest designations, Level 3 is now in place for 128 countries and one region. The Japanese government plans to expand the scope of its entry ban to the 18 countries.
"The spread of infections is continuing mainly in emerging and developing nations, and there is a need to stay alert," Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi told a press conference the same day.
