A deep water earthquake at a depth of 160 km in the Pacific Ocean hit the northwest coast of Amami Oshima southern of Japan around 00:51 am on June 14.
The magnitude estimated at its epicenter was 6.3 Shindo on the Japanese scale of 7 degrees, Japan’s meteorological agency said in the early hours Sunday.
The seismic intensity of 4 Shindo hit many municipalities including Kijima and Kikai islands in Kagoshima Prefecture.
Meanwhile, a seismic intensity of 3 Shindo was observed in Amami City and many parts in Kagoshima Prefecture including small islands.
The trembler also reached Okinawa Prefecture’s Nago City and other small towns and villages.
In addition, seismic intensities of 2 and 1 were observed in Miyazaki, Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto and Oita prefectures.
No tsunami warning was issued, although the magnitude of the earthquake was high at 6.3 Shindo under the water.
The distance from Tokyo to Kagoshima and Okinawa is about 3 hours by air.
