Coronavirus cases in Japan rise over 2,100 in one week

Japan confirmed 22,713 cases of the novel coronavirus as of Monday, marking a 2,171 increase from the previous week.

The country’s death toll from the virus rose by six and now stands at 996.

The total infection cases include 712 from the Diamond Princess cruise ship, 149 from the Costa Atlantica cruise ship, and 15 returnees on government-chartered flights.

Tokyo currently has the largest number of cases out of the country’s 47 prefectures, with  7,927, followed by Osaka, western Japan, with 2,027, and Kanagawa, south of Tokyo, with 1,746.
