TOKYO: Tokyo confirmed 239 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, marking the sixth straight day above 200 and the 17th consecutive day above 100, the metropolitan government said.
Osaka Prefecture, western Japan, reported 141 new confirmed cases of the virus and the central prefecture of Aichi 80 new cases, both their respective second-highest levels.
On the island of Yoron in the southwestern prefecture of Kagoshima where a cluster of infections is believed to have occurred, five new cases were confirmed, bringing its total to 34 cases.
