The Japanese government Friday welcomed the joint statement from the United States, Israel and the United Arab Emirates, announced on August 14, on the agreement to normalize relations between the UAE and Israel.
“It is a positive move that Israel will temporarily suspend the ‘application of sovereignty’ to the West Bank of the Jordan by this agreement, and Japan welcomes this move as the first step toward relaxing and stabilizing regional tensions,” the foreign ministry in Tokyo said in an official statement.
The statement also mentioned Japan’s appreciation of the US’ intermediary efforts, especially that of the US President Donald Trump.
“Japan believes that the Middle East peace issue should be resolved through negotiations between the concerned parties, not by violence or unilateral action, and ‘a two-state solution’ in which Israel and the future independent Palestinian state coexist peacefully and safely we continue to support,” the statement said.
