Typhoon Haishen is expected to head towards the southwestern part of Japan between Sunday and Monday.

Typhoon Haishen developed into a tropical storm before becoming a typhoon on September 2.

Officials are warning that extensive damage could occur as a result of the storm’s strength, and people in impacted zones should prepare for evacuation if required.

The storm could bring violent winds, rain and waves.

It is moving at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour as of Thursday, according to Japan’s Meteorological Agency.

NHK reported that the storm’s atmospheric pressure was 970 hectopascals with its core maximum wind velocity at 126 kilometers per hour and maximum instantaneous wind speed of up to 180 kilometers.

It is expected that Typhoon Haishen will redirect and approach the Daitojima region of Okinawa Prefecture.

According to NHK, winds of 180 kilometers per hour are predicted for Okinawa and the Amami region of Kagoshima on Saturday.

As of 9:00 a.m. Sunday, the storm’s central atmospheric pressure is expected to drop.
