Japanese Prime Minister SUGA Yoshihide on Friday reiterated his request for communications minister Ryota Takeda to realize cuts in mobile phone charges soon.

After meeting with Suga, Takeda told reporters that the prime minister wanted him “to make all-out efforts to reduce, even if only slightly, burdens on households as soon as possible.”

At the meeting, Takeda explained Thursday’s meeting with cell phone users and recent talks with the heads of Japan’s top three mobile communications service providers – NTT Docomo Inc., SoftBank Corp. and KDDI Corp.

The prime minister stressed that cutting households’ mobile phone costs is a key part of the government’s fresh stimulus package, according to Takeda.

The leading mobile phone carriers are studying specific ways to respond to Suga’s request.
