UAE’s Japanese bookstore to give away free comic books in May

DUBAI: On May 4th, Dubai and Abu Dhabi’s Kinokuniya will be celebrating the ‘Free Comic Book’ day by giving away three free comics per person as well as hosting a cosplay competition. 

Founded in 2002, ‘Free Comic Book Day (FCBD)’ is an annual promotion to help readers find new comic books from independent and unknown authors. The event is held worldwide on the first Saturday of May. 

The bookstore will also hold a cosplay competition for a voucher worth ¥41,331 (1,000 AED) as well as a cosplay parade to showcase all the costumes.

Additionally, from 2 to 7pm, the book store will also host manga artists who will create manga sketches of the audience guests for free. 

The Dubai branch will be covered with displays of Japanese art that will make guests feel like they are in Tokyo. On the other hand, the Abu Dhabi branch will host a Tamiya Mini 4WD car race. 

The event will start at 10am. Kinokuniya is located at Dubai Mall and The Galleria Al Maryah Island.
