Japanese Ambassador Okubo Takeshi attended a ceremony for laying the foundation stone for the restoration of the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health Central Drug Warehouse, one of the country’s main vaccine and medication stockpiles, in Karantina on October 29.
The foundation stone was laid in the presence of the Lebanese Minister of Public Health Hamad Hassan.
Japan is supporting the rehabilitation of Lebanon’s health sector that was severely affected by the Beirut Port explosion. The efforts include the rebuilding of the warehouse as well as other governmental Primary Health Care centers through grants to the World Health Organization and UNICEF.
In a speech at the ceremony, Okubo said: “These Japanese grants will contribute to activating the role of the health sector in Lebanon to secure medical and hospital care, enhancing human security for those affected by the Beirut Port explosion and other citizens in Lebanon.”
“There are strong ties that bind Japan and Lebanon, said the Japanese Ambassador Takeshi Okubo. Through this beautiful cooperation between WHO and Japan, we have turned a challenge into an opportunity,” tweeted the World Health Organization in Lebanon.
