Japanese State Minister of Foreign Affairs WASHIO Eiichiro on Dec. 3 participated in the online International Conference in Support of the Lebanese People, co-hosted by the Government of France and the UN.
WASHIO said in a video message that Japan’s humanitarian assistance to Lebanon totals to about 220 million dollars since 2012, emergency assistant of about7.6 million dollars to tackle the coronavirus pandemic and provision of emergency relief goods and Emergency Grant Aid of 5 million dollars after the devastating explosion in Beirut in August.
The minister pointed out that international support should be utilized effectively and meaningfully, according to the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
He added that Japan strongly hopes the Lebanese Government will implement “administrative, financial and judicial reforms in a rapid and transparent manner.”
State Minister WASHIO also called for the early establishment of an effective government so that necessary reforms would be implemented soonest. He expressed concern over the current situation in Lebanon where the reform implementation has been left behind.
