LONDON: World sports leaders Saturday expressed confidence in holding next year’s Tokyo Olympics in a safe and secure environment.
In a statement issued after a virtual meeting hosted by the International Olympic Committee, the sports leaders expressed their “full commitment to and confidence in the successful organization of safe and secure Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.”
The Tokyo Games were postponed by a year to summer in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The statement said that the leaders also agreed on the participation of all Olympic stakeholders in a worldwide coronavirus vaccination campaign.
