Tokyo: Japan on Feb. 8 welcomed the selection of a unified interim executive authority at the UN-led Libyan Political Dialogue Forum on Feb. 5, and “strongly hopes the executive authority will make its utmost efforts to achieve stability in Libya, including through the provision of economic and social services.”

A statement issued by the foreign ministry in Tokyo also said Japan called upon the Libyan executive authority to  make necessary preparations for the presidential and parliamentary elections, which are scheduled to take place on Dec. 24.
 
Japan highly commends the efforts by the Libyan stakeholders to reach the agreement, as well as the mediation efforts by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.

The statement pledged Japan will continue to cooperate with the international community with a view to realizing stability of Libya.
