The 2nd Japan-Arab political dialogue held online

TOKYO: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will hold the “2nd Japan-Arab Political Dialogue” with the participation of Saudi Arabia, in the form of a video conference that will be chaired by Foreign Minister MOTEGI Toshimitsu.

This political dialogue aims to promote cooperative relations between Japan and the Arab countries, and at this meeting, discussions will be held on measures against the new coronavirus, regional affairs, ocean security among other issues, according to the ministry in Tokyo.

In September 2013, the former Foreign Minister Kishida and the former Secretary-General of the Arab League of El Arabi signed a memorandum of understanding on Japan-Arab cooperation in New York. Established Japan’s first comprehensive cooperation framework including all Arab countries.

The Japan-Arab Political Dialogue is one of the three pillars of Japan-Arab cooperation in the memorandum. It includes Japan-Arab Economic Forum, Japan-Arab Political Dialogue and Japan-Arab Cultural Education Cooperation.

In September 2017, the first Japan-Arab Political Dialogue was held in Cairo.

The Countries that will participate in the upcoming dialogue are, Japan, Arab League Secretariat, and 20 Arab League member countries and 1 region. They are according to a list provided by the foreign ministry, United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Yemen, Iraq, Egypt, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Comoros, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Tunisia, Bahrain, Palestine, Morocco, Mauritania, Jordan, Libya, and Lebanon.
