TOKYO: The Government of Japan on Saturday expressed “deep sorrow at the grievous loss of many lives” as a result of the stampede at Mount Meron, Israel, during the Jewish festival of Lag B’Omer on April 30.

An official statement by Foreign Ministry Press Secretary YOSHIDA Tomoyuki  said the Japanese government extends its deep condolences to those who lost lives in the incident, their bereaved families and the State of Israel, and expresses its heartfelt sympathy to the injured, praying for their early recovery.
