SHIBATA: Japanese Finance Minister Taro Aso said he believes the next snap general election for the House of Representatives, the lower chamber of Japan’s parliament, will be held after this summer’s Tokyo Games.
“We’re in a situation where there is no doubt that the election will come after the Olympics,” Aso said during his lecture at a hotel in the city of Shibata, Niigata Prefecture, central Japan, on Sunday.
The term of office for current Lower House members is set to end on Oct. 21.
Aso also talked about Japan’s economic trends.
“Vaccines are important, coming before economic measures,” Aso said, expressing his thoughts on the need to speed up COVID-19 vaccinations before taking fiscal measures.
“(Assuring) relief is an extremely big factor,” he said.
