TOKYO: Two workers at the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics athletes’ village have been infected with the novel coronavirus, the games’ organizers said Tuesday.
An employee of the Tokyo Games organizing committee and a contract worker tested positive for the virus on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
Two other workers who had been in close contact with the infected people both tested negative. The four were eating at the same table, according to the committee.
The committee admonished the four workers and urged all staff members to comply with social-distancing rules, a public relations official said.
The organizing committee said three other contract workers, all residents of Japan, have newly tested positive for the virus.
Since the third edition of the playbook, a set of infection prevention measures, was released Thursday, 12 people with the games’ identification card have been infected with the virus, excluding officials and athletes who entered training camps after arriving in Japan.
