TOKYO: Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi on Thursday said “Japan strongly condemns the despicable murder of Jovenel Moïse, President of the Republic of Haiti on July 7, and expresses its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and the people of Haiti.”
Moïse was assassinated at his private residence early on Wednesday morning. His wife was also shot and is in critical condition.
Four suspects were killed by police and two have been detained.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, Japan said it “believes that relevant facts regarding the incident should be brought to light as soon as possible, hoping that the violence threatening the peaceful lives of the people will be ceased and the stability will be restored in Haiti.”
