Japan’s foreign minister, MOTEGI Toshimitsu held talks with Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League on August 16, and met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on August 17.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Motegi stressed importance to the League for continued cooperation between Japan and the Middle East region.

“They shared the view to deepen the relationship between Japan and the League of Arab States through various dialogues and cooperation in light of the achievement of the Second Japan-Arab Political Dialogue which was held successfully in April 2021,” MOFA shared.

Motegi and Aboul Gheit also discussed regional issues including the Middle East Peace Process and Afghanistan, as well as the situation in East Asia, such as China and North Korea.

On August 17, Motegi met with Abbas to discuss Japan-Palestine cooperation and the overall situation in the Middle East.
