Kishida vows cooperation with ASEAN for free Indo-Pacific

TOKYO: Japanese Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio said Wednesday that his country will work together with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to advance efforts to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific.

At an online meeting with leaders of the 10 ASEAN member states, Kishida also proposed hosting ASEAN leaders in Japan for a special summit in 2023 to mark the 50th anniversary of cooperation between the two sides.

He added that Japan will lead international efforts to achieve a carbon-neutral world and expressed his wish to boost cooperation with ASEAN in the field.
