TOKYO: The Tokyo Para Sports Next Generation Discovery Program “Competition Experience” was held at BumB Tokyo Sports Culture Center in Tokyo Bay in partnership with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
More than 136 participants took part in rifle shooting, boccia, curling, badminton, wheelchair basketball, martial arts and marathons.
Accompanied by his parents, a 13-year-old boy with visual impairment was able to train with a judoka who trains Olympic para-athletes. According to the young man’s father, his child had a strong desire to practice para-judo.
His father, a kendo practitioner, told Arab News Japan that the experience was interesting because it allowed his son to learn to salute and do some movements without hurting himself.
In an adjacent hall, athletes were able to undergo intensive training with Mitsuya Tanaka, who competed in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
The organizer of the event, Takahaki Tomiyama, told Arab News Japan that the participants were able, through the Paralympic games, to become curious and sought to learn how to practice sports.
