Japan asks Iran to comply with the JCPOA

TOKYO: Japan’s Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio called on Iran to comply with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo said.

During telephone talks on Feb 9. with Iranian president, Ebrahim Raisi, Prime Minister Kishida stated that Japan has consistently supported the JCPOA and expressed his hopes for the early return to compliance with the JCPOA.

“The Leaders exchanged candid views on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and both sides agreed to continue close communication on this matter,” the ministry said.

Kishida and Raisi also agreed to boost bilateral and diplomatic relations, which has a long history of over 90 years.

Prime Minister Kishida expressed his intention to cooperate with President Raisi to strengthen the historically friendly relationship between Japan and Iran. In response, President Raisi expressed his intention to work together with Kishida to enhance the relationship between Japan and Iran.

The statement said that the two leaders exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East, including Yemen, without giving details.

The telephone talks were held on Wednesday evening for 30 minutes.
