Police forces in the eastern Afghanistan province of Nangarhar have captured two people in relation to the murder of Japanese humanitarian aid doctor Tetsu Nakamura last week, sources in the police said Monday.

While the duo’s identities and their involvement in the incident remain unknown, the sources said that the police have confiscated clothes and weapons from their homes. The police will continue their investigations and provide more information to the Japanese side, the sources added.

Meanwhile, the governor of Nangarhar said that a technical team has arrived from the country's capital Kabul to the province to assist the investigation. The team will work with security forces to arrest and indict the perpetrators, according to the governor.

Tetsu Nakamura, the 73-year-old doctor and representative in Afghanistan of Japanese humanitarian aid group Peshawar-kai, was fatally shot by an armed group on Wednesday while heading by car to an irrigation canal construction site from Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar. Five others aboard the car, including its driver, were also killed in the shooting.
