TOKYO: A strong earthquake measuring the seismic intensity of upper 5 jolted Iwate Prefecture northeast of Tokyo, just two days after experiencing a big tremblor in the region.
The metrological agency said the quake’s epicenter, struck at around 23:25 on Friday, was off the coast of Iwate prefecture, at a depth of about 20km with a magnitude estimated to be at 5.
The agency there is no need to worry about the tsunami caused by this earthquake, but warned local people to be careful of earthquakes with a maximum seismic intensity of 5 or higher for about a week.
After the big earthquake, in particular, large-scale earthquakes often occur in the following few days.
The seismic intensity of 5 was observed in many cities and towns in Iwate prefecture and neighboring areas. The lower scale of 3 and 2 seismic intensity were observed in other areas in Aomori and others.
