TOKYO: An earthquake observing a maximum seismic intensity of 3 struck Kyoto City and most of Osaka Prefecture in the evening of April 30, the Japan Meteorological Agency reported on April 30.

The epicenter of the 6:06 pm quake is in the southern part of Kyoto prefecture, at the depth of 20 km. No casualties or damage reported.

The magnitude of the earthquake itself, is estimated to be 4.2, the agency said.

In Japan overall, there were 195 earthquakes with a magnitude of 4 or more in March. Seismic intensity 4 was also observed in Kyoto, the highest number since December 2012.
