Japan logs 242,000 new COVID-19 cases in past week

TOKYO: Japan reported 242,135 new COVID-19 cases in the past week, down by 43,534 from the preceding week.

The country’s cumulative coronavirus cases, including those among cruise ship passengers and crew members, stood at 7,911,078 as of 10 a.m. Monday (1 a.m. GMT).

By prefecture, Tokyo had the most weekly new cases at 29,668, followed by Osaka at 17,654, Hokkaido at 17,600, Kanagawa at 17,046 and Fukuoka at 14,192.
