On May 4, 1972, the two countries exchanged the Joint Communique on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations.

In a congratulatory message, Hayashi said the relationship between the Japanese Imperial Family and Emirati ruling families symbolized a “deep friendship.”

He added that in the last half century, the UAE and Japan deepened their bilateral cooperation in many areas such as renewable energy, new energy with hydrogen and ammonia, space technology and more.

Hayashi also congratulated the UAE for hosting a successful Expo and said Japan hoped to “carry the legacy forward to Osaka Kansai Expo in 2025.”

The two countries have been hosting various events and activities to celebrate the anniversary throughout the year and announced an official logo for the commemoration in December of last year.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the United Arab Emirates. As symbolised by the amicable relationship between the Japanese Imperial Family and Emirati ruling families, our two countries are bonded by deep friendship.

In the last 50 years, our bilateral cooperation has deepened further in many areas such as renewable energy, new energy with hydrogen and ammonia, science and technology, education, infrastructure and space technology, going beyond our established cooperation in the traditional energy sector. Under our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Initiative (CSPI), I hope this year will be marked as a special beginning to the Next 50 Years as we continue to strengthen our bilateral cooperation as strategic partners.

I would hereby like to congratulate the UAE on making such an accomplished success of Expo 2020 Dubai. We sincerely hope to carry forward the legacy created at Expo 2020 Dubai to Osaka Kansai Expo in 2025.”
