TOKYO: The 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics organizing committee unveiled Friday its latest budget plan estimating revenue at 630 billion yen, up 30 billion yen from the previous plan released a year ago, due in part to projected growth in ticket sales.

Expenditures are estimated at 603 billion yen, according to the latest plan.

Costs to be shouldered by the Tokyo metropolitan government stood at 597 billion yen and those for the Japanese government at 150 billion yen.

The estimate for overall costs for the 2020 Games was kept unchanged at 1.35 trillion yen.

The 3-billion-yen cost to set up a temporary venue for walk races was transferred from the Tokyo government to the organizing committee after the races were moved to Sapporo in the northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido, along with marathon events.

Meanwhile, costs related to the venue change for the marathon events were not reflected in the latest budget plan. The organizing committee will calculate how much will be necessary for transportation and accommodation for athletes and work out how to share the burden with the International Olympic Committee.

Ticket sales are estimated at 90 billion yen, up 8 billion yen. Domestic sponsorship revenue is estimated up 28 billion yen, at 348 billion yen.

Thanks to the growth in the revenue estimate, the organizing committee was able to set aside 27 billion yen for reserves to prepare for natural disasters and other unexpected events. That amount is outside the budget plan.

On expenditures, the estimate for transportation costs was raised by 6 billion yen to 41 billion yen, reflecting lessons from test events.

The organizing committee added 3 billion yen to costs to protect athletes and spectators from summer heat by preparing extra shade tents and other equipment.
