DUBAI: Members of the Niigata prefectural government council met with Head of the Media Affairs and Public diplomacy section at the UAE Embassy in Tokyo Ammar Alsamahi on June 15.
The delegation from Niigata, headed by Miyazaki Itsuo, included Otsuka Shuichi, Mayor of Ojia City and Katsuno Kazuaki, Director of the Prefecture Agriculture and Forestry Department.
The delegation presented details of the Nishikigoi World Summit, the fair that showcases the colorful fish. The winning nishikigoi can cost anywhere from several million to ten million yen (or about $7,000 to @77,000 USD.)
Niigata Prefecture, the birthplace of nishikigoi, will host the summit for the first time on Nov. 6 for ambassadors and related parties of various countries and industry bodies. The summit is to encourage exports and international interaction through nishikigoi.
The cool Japan Expo will also be taking place in the prefecture at the same time, scheduled for Nov. 5-6.
