TOKYO: An earthquake with a seismic intensity of 4 struck in Aomori Prefecture in northern Japan at midday on Friday.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the epicenter was in the Kamikita district of the prefecture, at a depth of about 90km.

On the RichterScale, the magnitude was estimated to be 5.1.

There was no danger of a tsunami.
