TOKYO: Japanese Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio is planning to hold a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres during his visit to Japan in August, government sources told JIJI Press on Tuesday.
The UN chief is slated to visit Hiroshima to attend for the first time a peace memorial ceremony marking the anniversary of the US atomic bombing of the western Japan city on Aug. 6.
Kishida plans to attend a review conference of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, set to start in New York on Monday, where he will send out a message on the importance of abolishing nuclear weapons.
He and Guterres are expected to discuss ways to achieve a world without nuclear weapons in their meeting.
