TOKYO: Japan on Tuesday announced that it will provide emergency relief goods such as water purifiers, water tanks, cord reels, and adapters to Cuba as relief aid in light of the damage caused by Hurricane Ian.

The aid will be provided through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to Cuba in response to a request from Cuba’s government following serious damage caused by the hurricane.

Hurricane Ian passed through the country on September 26 and 27 causing considerable damage.

As of October 5, according to the government of Cuba, the hurricane caused three deaths, approximately 7,000 people were evacuated and around 500,000 people were affected by the hurricane.

Japan decided to provide emergency assistance to Cuba to support victims affected by the disaster from a humanitarian standpoint and from the perspective of Japan’s “close relations” with Cuba.
