TOKYO: Japanese activists protested on the streets of Tokyo on Sunday, saying the COVID-19 pandemic was “a lie.”

The activists, carrying banners near the ritzy Ginza district, told passersby to tell their children that the coronavirus is not scary and adults did something terrible by telling them otherwise and “forcing” them to wear masks.

The Covid-19 deniers quoted European Parliament member Christine Anderson as saying, “Corona is a lie.”

“Anderson said that people are not deceived by small lies, but by big lies. She believes there was nothing to the coronavirus from the beginning.”

The protesters claimed Japanese people are being cheated because they are so passive. “People should get angry,” they said. “People should be angry about the government promoting dangerous vaccines,” they added.

“Corona is nothing more than the common cold,” they believe.

The Japanese health authorities, however, said on Sunday they confirmed 68,415 new COVID-19 cases in the whole country, an increase of about 2,500 from a week ago.
