TOKYO: An earthquake struck the Tokyo region on Sunday evening and was felt over a distance of over 300 kilometers both north and south of the Japanese capital.
The epicenter of the quake was in Kanagawa Prefecture near Yokohama to the southwest of Tokyo.
The earthquake registered 4.8 on the Richter Scale and had a maximum seismic intensity of 3 in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, Gunma and Tochigi Prefectures, according to Japan’s Metrological Agency.
Buildings shook in Tokyo and nearby areas but there were no early reports of damage or injuries.
The quake struck at a relatively deep depth of 150 kilometers and there was no danger of a tsunami.
