TOKYO: At the Sixth Dialogue on Countering Violent Extremism in the Middle East held March 9, Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, YAMADA Kenji welcomed visiting participants, Dr. Hakan Kiyici, Turkish National Police Academy Assistant Professor; Dr. Wisam Fakhry Hazimeh, Assistant Professor from the Department of Political Science at the Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II School for International Studies at the University of Jordan; and Adiba Naoua, a Teaching Fellow at Hassan Ⅱ University.

State Minister Yamada noted how Islam contributes to peace in the region and said, , “Japan shares with Islam a spirit that emphasizes “harmony” and “tolerance. “

He also said that Japan will continue to use their long standing good relations with countries in the Middle East to contribute to peace and prosperity in the international community, including through countering violent extremism, according to a statement by the foreign ministry.

The participants expressed their gratitude for the invitation to Japan, and said they hope to utilize the knowledge gained during their visit in their future efforts, adding that they look to Japan to continue playing a role in countering violent extremism.
