TOKYO: Japanese Foreign Minister HAYASHI Yoshimasa held a telephone talk with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdollahian on Wednesday during which he urged Iran to respond positively regarding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
The JCPOA deal on the Iranian nuclear program was agreed in 2015 between Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, along with Germany and the European Union.
The Ministers exchanged candid views on the latest developments surrounding Iran’s nuclear program. Hayashi stated that Japan has consistently supported the JCPOA and expressed his strong hopes for a constructive response from Iran, including full and unconditional cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The ministers decided to continue close communication on the issue.
They also exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine and agreed on continuing bilateral dialogue in a wide range of fields.
Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian expressed Iran’s intention to further deepen the long-standing relationship between Japan and Iran.
