WASHINGTON: US President Joe Biden on Tuesday indicated that he may skip a summit of Group of Seven leaders in Japan unless a standoff over the federal debt ceiling is resolved.

“I’m still committed” to attending the G7 summit, Biden told reporters after meeting with congressional leaders on the debt ceiling. “But obviously this is the single most important thing that’s on the agenda.”

“I would stay until this gets finished,” he said.

Leaders from the G7 major democracies are scheduled to meet in the western Japan city of Hiroshima on May 19-21.
