
TOKYO: An earthquake with a seismic intensity of four on the Japanese scale struck in northeastern Chiba Prefecture to the east of Tokyo on Friday night.
The earthquake registered 4.9 on the Richter Scale and struck at a depth of 50 km.
The epicenter was near the town of Choshi, the most eastern point on Japan’s main island of Honshu and 100 km from downtown Tokyo, where building shook for around 15 seconds.
There was no danger of a tsunami and no early reports of damage.
A number of medium-sized and strong earthquakes have struck Japan in the last couple of months.
