TOKYO: Japan will provide additional assistance in response to the flood disaster in southern Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday.
The new aid is in addition to Emergency Grant Aid of $5 million that was decided on June 20.
Japan will provide 100 water purifiers, 21 large water tanks and 4,000 plastic water containers through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in order to urgently secure drinking water for the residents of the Kherson region, the worst affected area.
Japan will also provide approximately 60 water purification units and about 30 drain pumps, also through JICA. In addition, 8,000 meters of safety rope and 3,000 pieces of absorbent material will be provided and transported to the Kherson region.
Japan says it will continue to support and stand by the people of Ukraine in these hard times in collaboration with the international community.
