
TOKYO: An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter Scale struck off the east coast of Japan on Saturday morning, shaking buildings in downtown Tokyo.
The earthquake measured 4 on Japan’s seismic intensity scale and occurred at a depth of 50 kilometers.
The epicenter was off the coast of Ibaraki Prefecture, approximately 120 km northeast of Tokyo and close to the Tokai nuclear power plant.
The greatest intensity was felt in Ibaraki Prefecture’s capital city Mito and the surrounding area.
The Japan Metrological Agency said there was no danger of a tsunami.
