DUBAI: Japan signed a grant contract to support the construction of Haykel Hospital’s sewage treatment facility in Lebanon, which will help prevent infectious diseases.
Lebanon’s public sewage treatment facilities are barely functioning due to the current economic crisis, which has led to the spread of cholera and hepatitis A.
Established in 1969, Haykel Hospital offers quality and affordable medical care. The hospital has been forced to discharge medical wastewater into the river without proper treatment, as the public sewage treatment facility in the area where the hospital is located is also not functioning.
Japan’s support for the hospital will help prevent infectious diseases in the coastal areas of Tripoli and Rasmaska, where approximately 182,500 residents live.
During the signing ceremony, which took place on Jan. 17, Ambassador MAGOSHI shared that Japan is willing to continue its assistance to the vulnerable committees in Lebanon, while the hospital expressed their gratitude towards Japan’s support.
