TOKYO: Houthi spokesman Mohammed Buhaiti has told Kyodo News that attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea will continue until the genocide in Gaza stops.
Buhaiti spoke to Kyodo News in the Yemeni capital Sana’a and stated, “We will not stop until the Israeli massacre in the Palestinian-controlled area of Gaza ends.”
The group indicated their intention to release a Japanese-related ship that was seized in the Red Sea in 2023, “depending on the conditions.”
In November 2023, the Houthis seized the Galaxy Leader, a cargo ship operated by Nippon Yusen Kaisha, which is believed to be owned by an Israeli businessman. Buhaity said that the ship would be released if the Palestinian resistance forces requested its release.
The Houthi group has repeatedly attacked merchant ships in the Red Sea, mainly targeting Israeli-related ships. In response, the United States, Britain and Israel have launched attacks on Houthi targets in Yemen.
