TOKYO: The Embassy of Kuwait held a celebration on Tuesday hosted by Ambassador Sami Al-Zamanan, YAMADA Kenji, Japan’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs, and over 300 guests from politics, business and academia on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of Kuwait’s independence and the 32nd anniversary of its liberation.
In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador Al-Zamanan emphasized his country’s “democratic, developmental, and humanitarian pathway.”
“I also renew the People of Kuwait’s commitment to peace and the United Nations Charter in the relations between countries.”
The Ambassador said Kuwait has been playing “a significant role” in mediation and resolution of conflicts between countries, in humanitarian work, and in development work through the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development.
“This occasion also reminds us of the commendable contributions of the friendly nations that supported my nation’s liberation, among which was Japan, whose stance shall always remain engraved in our minds,” he said. “My country’s independence also marked the historical commencement of our distinguished diplomatic relations with Japan, with whom we share a strong friendship.”
Minister Yamada noted that Kuwait is a trustworthy supplier of crude oil for Japan and plays an extremely important role in stabilizing the international crude oil market. He added that the relationship between the two countries has achieved steady progress not only in the energy sector, but also in a wide range of areas.
“Japan and Kuwait share many common positions and enjoy a reliable relationship. Both countries attach great importance to international law and the rule of law, support the United Nations and multilateralism, and are committed to the international efforts for conflict resolution and humanitarian assistance,” Yamada said.
