Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Culture  announced the formation of the Board of Directors of the Music Commission on July 19, which will be presided by the Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, the Saudi deputy minister of culture Hamed bin Mohammed Fayez, Prince Badr bin Abdul Mohsin, Dr. Barry Eve, Dr. Joseph Polisi, Nizar bin Hashem Naqro, and Muhammad bin Abdullah al-Mulhim.

The membership of the Board of Directors extends for three renewable years, provided that the board meets four times a year, or whenever the need arises.

The council will issue necessary decisions needed to achieve the goals of the commission, supervise the implementation of its strategies, approve policies related to its activities, regulate internal and technical procedures, as well as all plans and programs that facilitate the development of the Music Commission.

The commission is one of the eleven new cultural commissions formed  by Ministry of Culture to manage and develop various branches of the Saudi cultural sector.

The authority will be responsible for promoting and advancing the music sector in the country, its financing and investment, adopting vocational training programs and specialized certifications, building music education programs, and offering scholarships to gifted and talented musicians.

Through the Music Commission, the Ministry of Culture will work to develop the Saudi music sector, and stimulate, support and encourage both, musical and artistic production in order to empower local talent.

Chief Executive Officer of the Music Commission Jihad Alkhaldi will work towards proposing the strategic plan for the music sector, within the framework of the national strategy for culture, and follow up on its implementation after the ministry’s approval.

Part of the tasks attributed to the music authority will involve supporting upcoming musicians, preserving copyrights, providing licenses, developing creative environments, providing training and investment opportunities, organizing and hosting international competitions, developing a professional industry for the musical arts, and establishing a database for the music sector in Saudi Arabia.
