RIYADH: Saudi Arabia expressed on Tuesday its backing for US efforts in preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, Saudi Press Agency reported.
The Kingdom’s Cabinet, which met on Tuesday in a session chaired by King Salman, also thanked Joe Biden and the US for supporting Saudi Arabia defending its territory against attacks by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi militia, a statement issued after the meeting said.
The Cabinet said the US commitment will increase joint efforts to preserve security and stability in the Kingdom and the region, Acting Minister of Information said Majid Al-Qasabi said.
The Cabinet also affirmed that the Kingdom is committed to deescalating tensions in the region and supporting US efforts to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, and stressed the need to work together to counter Tehran’s destabilizing activities in the region.
Talks on a new nuclear accord with Iran are underway in Vienna amid growing Western fears about Tehran’s accelerating nuclear advances, seen by Western powers as irreversible unless a deal is struck soon.
