DUBAI: Japanese manga artist Keiko Takemiya in 2021 republished the popular issue of “The Road of Hermès,” first published in 1997.

Takemiya took the original issue and redrew it, adding 63 new pages to the issue, adding stories from then on to the present.

The book depicts the history of the French brand from 1837 to 160 years and shows Jean-Louis Dumas, the president at the time, conveying the history and value of Hermès to the general public.

Takemiya took the story and turned the concept into manga.

The new edition focuses on three events since 1997. The first is an episode about “Ginza Maison” by architect Renzo Piano, which was completed in 2001. It describes how the “Ginza Maison,” which illuminates the city of Ginza with numerous glass blocks, was born and completed.

The second is the history of the Hermès-sponsored equestrian show jumping competition “So Hermès.”

The third is the story behind the birth of the “petit h” series, which is the brand’s sustainable space for creating fanciful objects such as home décor out of unused materials from the ateliers.

The book is available at some Hermès boutiques and is priced at 1600 yen (or about $11 USD).
