Japanese animation studios Science SARU and Production I.G. announced the development of a new Ghost in the Shell anime.

According to Gizmodo, the series has the title of “The Ghost in the Shell” and is expected to premier in 2026. The show will be the first anime of the franchise since the 2020 Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, which took place in the franchise’s Stand Alone Complex universe.

The show on Netflix has a total of two seasons.

The series was first published as a manga in 1989 by Masamune Shirow. It focused on Public Security Section 9, a counter-cyberterrorist organization led by Major Motoko Kusanagi.

Ghost in the Shell featured four mangas, five animated movies and one live-action film starring Scarlett Johansson. It also had four animated series.
