Jujutsu Kaisen manga to end next month, six years post publishing

Gege Akutami’s renowned manga ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ revealed on X that it will officially conclude on Sept. 30, with five more chapters left, leaving fans all over the world saddened with the sudden announcement.

The manga has been getting published since 2018 in the magazine Weekly Shonen Jump. It became one of the best-selling manga series of all time as it sold more than 90 million copies since publishing. 

“Jujutsu Kaisen will reach its final chapter in issue 44 of Weekly Shonen Jump,” the manga’s official X account said on Monday. “Please continue to support us until the final episode.”

Akutami left a small message in one of Weekly Shonen Jump’s YouTube videos, saying, “I’m only able to end the story in the way I wanted thanks to the support and cooperation of all my readers. Thank you.” 

“I am working hard to create a final chapter that will satisfy as many people as possible who have supported Jujutsu Kaisen,” he added.

Fans on social media platforms expressed their sadness regarding the news, especially because it was announced shortly after My Hero Academia ended. 

“I was so shocked when I first heard it’s going to end,” said one user. “I think there will be a sequel or some kind of continuation (to the story) said another user, pointing out things that have not been resolved yet. 

Jujutsu Kaisen follows Yuji Itadori as he joins a secret organization to eliminate a powerful curse. The first anime adaptation of the manga premiered in 2020, with 24 episodes.
