DUBAI: American-Japanese film director Neo Sora attended the 81st International Venice Film Festival on Monday wearing a Palestinian flag badge and wearing a traditional Palestinian scarf known as the ‘keffiyeh.’

Sora was attending the photocall of the movie ‘HappyEnd’ presented in the Orizzonti selection during the festival at Venice Lido.

His outfit at the event captured the attention of many social media users, with most of them praising the Japanese director for his support of Palestine.

One user wrote: “Neo Sora, you are a good man.” Many others also expressed their respect for Sora for the move.

Sora is also active on social media himself, as he has used his platforms to raise awareness of the Israeli war on Gaza that has been ongoing since last October.

His Instagram and X accounts are filled with videos and information from the Gaza Strip, which is currently suffering a poliovirus outbreak in addition to war.

Sora has directed narrative and documentary films, including Ryuichi Sakamoto: Opus and HappyEnd.

His new movie will also screen at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and 2024 New York Film Festival.
