The FIFA Museum in Zurich is celebrating the 44th anniversary of Captain Tsubasa, the beloved Japanese football manga series that has captivated fans worldwide.

Known as Captain Majid in the Arab world, the series has played a pivotal role in shaping the passion for football across generations.

As part of its Football Fever exhibition, the museum is honoring the “profound influence” of the manga, which was created by Yoichi Takahashi in 1981.

According to Kyodo News, the exhibit highlights how Captain Tsubasa revolutionized the sport’s popularity, inspiring young players and football enthusiasts globally, from Japan to the Middle East and beyond.

The showcase, running until August 31, features exclusive memorabilia, including a Japan national team jersey signed and illustrated by Takahashi himself as a tribute to the country’s football legacy.

Adding to the interactive experience, visitors can immerse themselves in Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions, a video game that brings the football moves of the series to life.

In the Arab world, Captain Majid has transcended its role as a simple anime and manga series to become a true cultural phenomenon. The show’s storylines, heroic characters and dramatic football sequences have left a lasting imprint on Middle Eastern football culture.
