A new musical quartet in the form of four blue animated hamster cartoons has gained popularity on social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram and messaging app Line.

Blue HamHam, created by Japanese graphic designer Arimura Taishi, features short animation clips of four blue little “space hamsters” playing various instruments along with a popular song in the background.

Some songs featured in these short animations include Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You,” Missy Elliot’s “Lose Control” and Alexandra Stan’s “Mr. Saxobeat.”

After garnering over 1 million hits on their videos, the Blue HamHam quartet now have their very own stickers for sale on the popular messaging app Line.

The stickers are sold for $1.99USD or about ¥ 220 yen.

Taishi’s work has also been featured on popular Instagram pages like 9GAG.

The blue hamsters have also been part of the fight against the bushfires in Japan as one fan painted them as part of the #PrayForAustralia campaign. They were included in street art in Australia providing a koala with water.

The Blue HamHam quartet has been causing a social media frenzy amongst fans, with the twitter account gaining over 180k followers since joining in November last year.

The hamster band has most definitely been entertaining watchers through quarantine and social distancing.
